چکیده

3-Phosphoglycerate phosphatase and phosphoglycolate phosphatase were found in leaves of all 52 plants examined. Activities of both phosphatases varied widely between 1 to 20 micromoles per minute per milligram chlorophyll. Plants were grouped into two categories based upon the relative ratio of activity of 3-phosphoglycerate phosphatase to phosphoglycolate phosphatase. This ratio varied between 2:1 to 4:1 in the C(4)-plants except corn leaves which had a low level of 3-phosphoglycerate phosphatase. This ratio was reversed and varied between 1:2 to 1:6 in all C(3)-plants except one bean variety which had large amounts of both phosphatases. By differential grinding procedures for C(4) plants a major part of the 3-phosphoglycerate phosphatase was found in the mesophyll cells and P-glycolate phosphatase in the bundle sheath cells. Phosphoglycolate phosphatase, but not 3-phosphoglycerate phosphatase, was located in chloroplasts of C(3)- and C(4)- plants. Formation of 3-phosphoglycerate phosphatase increased 4- to 12-fold during greening of etiolated sugarcane leaves. This cytosol phosphatase displayed a diurnal variation in sugarcane leaves by increasing 50% during late daylight hours and early evening. It is proposed that the soluble form of 3-phosphoglycerate phosphatase is necessary for carbon transport between the bundle sheath and mesophyll cells during photosynthesis by C(4)-plants. In C(3)- and C(4)-plants this phosphatase initiates the conversion of 3-phosphoglycerate to serine which is an alternate metabolic pathway to glycolate metabolism and photorespiration.

The regulation of glycolate metabolism in division synchronized cultures of euglena.

Phosphoglycolate and phosphoglycerate phosphatases and glycolate dehydrogenase activities were determined in division synchronized Euglena gracilis strain Z cultures. Phosphoglycolate phosphatase activity remained nearly constant in the light but doubled in the dark, whereas phosphoglycerate phosphatase activity decreased by half in the light and increased 4-fold over the dark phase of the cycl...

Glycolate pathway in algae.

No glycolate oxidase activity could be detected by manometric, isotopic, or spectrophotometric techniques in cell extracts from 5 strains of algae grown in the light with CO(2). However, NADH:glyoxylate reductase, phosphoglycolate phosphatase and isocitrate dehydrogenase were detected in the cell extracts. The serine formed by Chlorella or Chlamydomonas after 12 seconds of photosynthetic (14)CO...

Isolation and Distribution of Phosphoglycolate Phosphatase.

A phosphatase specific for P-glycolate5 was purified from extracts of tobacco leaves until no other phosphatase activity could be demonstrated in the preparation (10). Other plants have now been examined for the presence of this phosphatase. A new isolation procedure for the enzyme was developed because the (NH4) 2SO4 fractionation procedure, which was used with tobacco leaf extracts, inactivat...

Phosphoglycerate mutase. Kinetics and effects of salts on the mutase and bisphosphoglycerate phosphatase activities of the enzyme from chicken breast muscle.

The steady state kinetics and effects of salts on chicken breast phosphoglycerate mutase have been examined. The enzyme can catalyze three phosphoryl transfer reactions: mutase, bisphosphoglycerate phosphatase, and bisphosphoglycerate synthase. The mutase rate was measured in the favorable direction (Keq = glycerate-3-P/glycerate-2-P approximately equal to 12) using [2T]glycerate-2-P as substra...

The levels of Serum Alkaline Phosphatase and Lactate Dehydrogenase in Hodgkin Lymphoma

Background: Hodgkin’s disease (HD) is a neoplastic disease originating in lymphoid tissue, which spreads to lymphoid structures and ultimately nonlymphoid tissues. Lactate Dehydrogenase and Alkaline Phosphatase are increased in blood following membrane cell damage. The aim of this study was to compare Lactate Dehydrogenase and Alkaline Phosphatase levels in children in different stages of Hodg...
